The Oingo Boingo Generation Gap

Me: Hey, Saul (a University of Waterloo intern in our office) do you like "Oingo Boingo"?
Saul: Who?
Me: You know: Dead man's party, only a lad, etc?
Saul: Sounds like they were big in the 80's. I was 7 when the 80's ended.
Me: Get back to work.

upon closer inspection, I can see that they were big in the 80s... and I was 7.

Now ask Saul where he was when the Challenger exploded.

"The Challenger? What's that?"

I was at home crying... not because of Challenger, but because I was 3.

I saw Mystic Nights of the Oingo Boingo back in the late 70's in a small club in Hollywood. Few people knew of them at that time. They wore Gorilla suites and put on a whole show. I later saw them at a Las Vegas Hotel in a small bar, very few people were in the bar and the few that were there did not seem to know them. They seemed surprised that I was up dancing singing to their songs. It was very exciting! The next time I saw them was in Santa Monica, they were playing on Halloween, again a great show. I was first exposed to Oingo Boingo by the movie Forbidden Zone, it was very unusual.
